Mark every other file

Post by *AnthonyCian »

Is there a way to mark every other file? The filenames have no basic pattern to them, but like to know if I can randomly mark every other file? Is there a plug-in that can do that?
Say I highlight one filename, then from that point on it marks every other file in that folder. This may sound silly to some, but I think it can be use full to mark files randomly for quality control where I work at.

Are you aware of cm_ExchangeSelection (Numpad *) ?
It basically does what you described.

AnthonyCian,
You can try the following: Num+, Define, Plugins tab, plugin tc, property Random number, OP >, Value e.g. 32768. Save as e.g. random32768. Then select this template from list and click OK. TC will select some files randomly (with probability about 32768/65536=50% per file). Every time TC will select different set of files.

Not sure how to apply this so that every other file is marked. Can you explain with example on how to apply it? This is just an invert of what is already marked.

I followed your instructions and it works to mark random filenames. It doesn't mark every other file though, but at least random files are marked. Not necessilary 50%, but close enough.

Still looking to mark every other file... If Possible... that's because I know which files where picked based on every other file. Silly way of trying to do this, but the only way I can think of since the files are not named with a pattern. Wish it was, but have no control over that.

milo1012 and MVV
Thanks, AnthonyCian

Maybe you should explain in more detail what you mean by "mark every other file", the formulation is ambiguous.
Marking files with the same extension, or all other files left "behind" the current file you selected or sth. else?

Looking at a dictionary tells me you could mean "every 2nd file", is that what you want to achieve?

Download this plugin: http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/misc.html

Make a search by Plugin with "misc" as the Plugin, "Odd" as the property, "=" as the OP and "yes" as the Value. Save the search as for example "Odd".

Now, in the file list press NUM-+ and choose Odd as predefined selection type.

Petermad:
Thanks for pointing this plug-in out, this is exactly what I was looking for. Perfect!!!

And I thank Leftous for creating it. Wish the other OP fields were explained so I can see what they do as well.
