suport for comment field in zip files

Post by *ddt »

Does the internal zip plugin support the comment field in a zip file?
Is there a custom setting in creating the column view to see it?

If its not supported could it be added?

No, comments are not supported. You can pack the descript.ion file created by TC when using Ctrl+Z (you need to enable the display of hidden files).

Pls add a TC option to add/update comment file in zips

Post by *Hammillian7 »

I've thought of this many times and, now that I see another person's comment here, I decide to write:

I've got used to using file comments with TC and would like them to accompany the files when packing them. Sometimes I remember to add the descript.ion file for inclusion in the packing, but others I forget.

It would be most convenient for me (and probably many) to have a TC option by which the comment file is always included (and/or updated) in packings.

Thanks.

Jose.

I now zip the whole folder not to lose the descript.ion file. But problems start when I zip some selected files in a folder -- the comments are not transferred. Is it not possible to have a way that will include in the zip file a new descript.ion file containing comment fields of the selected files?

Transferring comments into archives is not supported now, and is not planned as Christian answered.

Sorry, MVV. I thought Christian said he had no plans on "viewing" comments from within a zip file.

I think viewing is also not planned, or it would be added a long time ago. The only files I know that are extracted from ZIPs automatically are Readme files for quick view.

The packer plugin interface does provide for file comments (structure tHeaderData(Ex)) but the WCX Writer's guide says
The Cmt* values can be used to transfer file comment information. They are currently not used in Total Commander, so they may be set to zero.
I guess this is still the case :( ?

If so then maybe make a suggestion or poll?
