How to delete a PDF file after quick view it?

Post by *jnrvilhena »

I'm assessing Total Commander and plugins features which are very impressive.

Nevertheless, after previewing a PDF file in the quick view panel I close the panel and after trying to delete it I get a dialog box with the following message:
"Error Deleting File or Folder"
" Cannot delete <FILE>: It is being used by another person or program."
" Close any programs that might be using the file and try again."

This happens using ieview or htmlview plugins. I suppose that Total Commander/ Plugins is locking all PDF files after opening them with quick view. Is this the usual behavior or is something wrong with my settings? Can it be fixed?

Best regards

I cannot confirm this - I can delete the previously viewed files without problems.

Testet with 32bit TC 8.50 RC3 and HTMLView and IEView under Windows XP (IE 8), 7 (IE 11) and 8.1 (IE 11).

I cannot make HTMLView show pdf files with 64bit TC 8.50 RC3 under Windows 7 and 8.1 - access is denied - maybe some IE 11 security restriction - I think I could before IE 11 was installed, but I am not sure.

Wich versions of TC and Windows are you using. Where are the pdf files located, maybe you don't have permissions to delete where they are?

Use the SLister plugin which uses SumatraPDF.
No problems with the x64 version and Quickview.
I can delete the currently shown pdf in Quickview.

I'm using TC 8.01 in Windows XP, service pack 3, and IE 8.
The files are located in directories where I have full privileges. After all, I'm my own Administrator :) I can delete files if I don't quick view them, but if I quick view them I have to restart TC to delete them which is not functional at all.

In the meanwhile, I have tried SumatraPDF but it doesn't have some important features present in adobe acrobat. But, in lack of a better solution I may use it.

I just reinstalled TC 8.01 under Windows XP SP3 (that has IE 8) and tried again with HTMLView 1.2.6 (using Adobe Reader 11.0.06) - I still have no problems deleting pdf files that I have just Quick viewed.

What version is your HTMLView and your Adobe Reader?

Have you tried with a clean wincmd.ini file where you only have installed HTMLView?

Problem solved with a system update. Is this kind of things that pisses me in software; things get broken and solved without we understand why.

Sorry for the loss of time.
