Del key in laptop

Post by *Cobras »

I recently started to use a laptop computer.
I noticed that DEL key in laptop behaved a little differently from that in desktops. Delete key in desktop deletes almost everything including files and folders in TC. But Delete key in laptop does not. I got to use F8 key to delete files and folders in TC. How can I enable Delete key to that job?

Hmm, I have two labtops here from different manufacturers, and the Delete key works as expected and the same way as on my desktop pc. That also goes for the Del key on the numeric keypad when in non-numeric mode.

Maybe you unintentionally have remapped the Del key on your labtop?

EDIT
FYI, My labtops are from Packard Bell and HP.

I have two Dell laptops (3-years old Vostro; 2 yr old XPS L701X).
I got to use F8 key to delete anything in TC. BTW, Del key works fine on anything outside of TC.

Does it help if you put Allowhook=0 in wincmd.ini?

Where in wincmd.ini.

Under which category (configuration, list plugins, left, right, etc.) in Wincmd.ini. I placed that line in different category. None worked. When I hit Del, it only highlighted but not deleted.

Sorry, my mistake. It's an option for FTP (wcx_ftp.ini) for entering master password. So it won't help you.
[General]
Allowhook= This option controls the keyboard input in the master password dialog

You mean that it selects like the Insert key?

Check if your input language and keyboard layout changes if Total Commander is active.

What Windows version are you using?
What input language and what keyboard language and layouts are defined in Windows?

Unfortunately I do not own a Dell laptop, but on my old Asus eee PC with Windows 8 and my newer Samsung Windows tablet the Del key work just fine. I assume that the Dell laptop sends something different when you press Del. Maybe you have to combine it with Shift or FN key?

How does Del work for you in TC in places like input fields and command line - does that not work either?

Hello, Cobras.

Environment here:
+ Dell Latitude E6330
+ Window 7 SP1 EE, 32-bit, German
+ Total Commander 8.50 (final) 32-bit

The Dell DEL key (no pun intended) works as expected in Total Commander and elsewhere in Windows.
The DEL key is the rightmost key in the upper righthand corner of the keyboard here. No need to press any additional key here when pressing DEL in order to get the DEL function.
Could it be that on your keyboard the DEL key needs to be pressed in combination with <FN> e.g.?
Or could there be any daemon software lurking in the background which intercepts DEL for some reason?

Kind regards,
Karl

I was wondering if your keyboard and/or input language is switching. See:

Eventually, I figured that out by pressing both Num Lock and Del keys. That step is a little inconvenient to use. Because when both Numlock and Del key are pressed, it prompted to confirm to delete or not.
