Thumbnails & compressed files

Post by *Grom »

Hello there,

So, I'm trying to organize an ungodly amount of files so each one of them has at least one thumbnail. I've run into two problems which I don't know if I can solve in TC, and any tips would be very welcome!

1) Is it possible have a gallery of all the thumbnails on TC? Not all files are compressed, so if I try to search for "*.jpeg *.png *.bmp *.jpg" and feed the results to the listbox, I'll be able to see the thumbnails of the uncompressed files (by pressing ctrl+shift+f1), but not of the compressed ones (which appear as .zips, .rars, etc).

I can press "view" to view each image of the search results, but that would be unpractically slow.

2) Is it possible to search for all the compressed files that don't have any thumbnail/image? The idea is to detect the files without thumbnails, so that I can add those later.

Thank you very much to anyone who can spare the time :-)

It is not clear what kind of thumbnails you want to see:
1. Windows thumbnails?
2. TC thumbnails? TC can't store thumbnails for files within archives (they don't have fixed path), and extract them too (it would require unpacking every file from archive).
3. Embedded image thumbnails (they aren't supported by all formats, e.g. BMP can't have thumbnails but JPG can). AFAIK TC doesn't allow searching within archives using plugins.

BTW is there any sense to pack files that are already compressed (JPG, PNG)? Archivers can't provide good compression ratio for such files anyway.

Thank you for your help!

What I'm trying to do is merely have a gallery where I can have representative images of each folder before me, so that I'd have a good visual menu.

It's not organized well. Some folders are compressed, others not, others have a thumbnail inside a compressed archive, others have a thumbnail alongside the compressed file in a folder, others don't have a thumbnail at all. I thought that if I knew how to search for compressed folders without images, it would be easy to do it for simple folders, so I wouldn't need to ask you about it twice :D

I understand that if I need to grab an image within a compressed archive, I'd need to eventually repeat the process/extracting, since they would be temporary files. I just thought that since TC can open the images on the search results pretty quickly, why wouldn't TC be able to make a gallery with thumbnails of those images?
