TC appearance in Windows 8

Does anyone know how to remove the lines in the toolbar? I just saw this screenshot and mine looks different.

The lines of the toolbar are part of the toolbar itself.
Your screenshot (in black) shows a TC with hidden elements like toolbar and drivebar.

To hide those elements, choose menu entry "Configuration - Options - Layout" and uncheck items
- Show buttonbar
- Show drivebar
- Show drive combobox

... and all others you don't want to see.

Well, the colors depend on your Windows settings. Windows 8.x doesn't any longer have a decent tool for setting the Windows element colors as XP and Win 7 did, so you have to edit the windows registry - these changes will get rid of those lines exept the line under the buttonbar (see http://madsenworld.dk/index-uk.htm?wincmd/tc8-uk.htm )

The traditional style of the toolbar actually looks good. It is readable and not flat like most Win 8 interface. The lines group buttons into logical classes and guide the eyes.

I notice that the difference between the "face" of the buttons and the "lit edge" is smaller than it was on Win2k, and all the colors are completely neutral grey like a cold hospital wall made of concrete. WinMe/2k had a touch of red on all "3D objects".

I'll keep this post for reference for when I get Win 7 or 8, because I want to try and accomplish the opposite: add depth to the flattened interface. In XP and earlier these colors used to be part of monolithic presets of type binary value, selectable in the "appearance" control panel, where we could only choose the 3D face color, and the rest got recalculated automatically (shaded and lit edges). I do not recall that the colors were separately editable.
