Migrating TC 32 bit to 64 bit

Post by *ElQuia »

Hi guys. Have a question. I have been using mostly TC 32 bits, due to XP compatibility.
Am now only on 64 bits windows 7 doing some testing on 64 bits windows 10

My TC is highly personalized with lots pf plugins. (8.52a)

I would like to know if there is any way (easy way I hope) of migrating all the toolbars, settings, plugins, etc from the 32 version to a 64 one :?:

THANKS!!

First of all: There is no need to use the 64-bit version of TC. The 32-bit version runs fine at Win7/Win10 64-bit.

Usually you just have to copy your TC directory to the new PC (incl. wincmd.ini)

After TC is running fine there, you may download the 64-bit+32-bit combined Version and install it to the same location (all settings are kept)

Your personal settings will be reused, but you'll have to replace all your plugins with 64bit plugins if available.. Many newer plugins will already be installed in both 32- and 64-bit versions in your current 32bit TC.

no need to use the 64-bit version of TC
And what's about driver installs or proper work of x64 software, started from TCx32?

I haven't had (or heard of) any problems resulting from the use of TC 32 bit on Windows x64 systems. And so far, I've been using only TC 32 bit on my own and my customer's systems. So, I don't know what you mean with your statement.

Everyday i'm starting both 32bit and 64bit software from 32bit TC on 64bit OS. Not a single issue.

My TCx32 also works pretty fine on 64-bit OS, and I use only it (though I release 32+64 bit plugins).

The only problems may be in case of plugins that need to load drivers (but I don't use such ones).
Perhaps redirection also requires some attention but not so much. It isn't a problem for me at all to enter C:\Windows\System64 junction instead of its target C:\Windows\System32 in order to see real 64-bit System32 folder. The only thing that bothers me is REG-files: when I double-click them in TC, 32-bit regedit is used, but when I double-click them in Windows, 64-bit regedit is used, and these two may write to different registry locations because of registry redirection.
