Windows 10: Total Commander does not save tabs

Hello everyone!

I run
- Total Commander 8.52a (x64) under
- Windows 10 Home
I installed Total Commander in the "Program Files" folder.

I overcame the problem that Windows initially didn't allow me to run the Total Commander at all. However, one problem persists:

Total Commander does not remember which tabs I had open when closing the programme. It doesn't help to click on "Save position" and/or "Save settings".
There is no error message or the like. It's just that TC always opens with the same old tabs, which is at least annoying.

Any clues anyone how to overcome this?

Probably you have not enough rights to write to that folder. Try reinstalling TC in any directory where you definitely have writing permissions, and specify that wincmd.ini should be stored in %COMMANDER_PATH%

What did you mean by that? There is a good chance the problems are related. The latest TC should be as compatible with Windows 10 as it was with previous versions of Windows. That means no hacks like running as Admin or compatibility settings are needed and should be avoided. And unless you know what you are doing, you should not have "wincmd.ini" under "Program Files" but in your profile's folder.

You can find location of currently used wincmd.ini in TC->Help->About Total Commander...

The common way is to let TotalCommander put ini files in your own HOME/USER folder.
The best is for me to use portable like software in their own folder under a common tools folder where all users (excep guest) have full permission or into your APPLOCAL folder if you need per user install.

Indeed, that did it:

I re-installed the Total Commander an chose the User folder as location for the .ini file.
