Post by *neverthelesshello »

the biggest I can set them in thumbnail view is 32x32 in windows explorer I have them on 48 which to me looks nicer. Will this ever be changed in Total commander?

It is up to you, to set the size.

I made test icon with sizes 16, 24, 32, 48 and 256 (each picture contains icon size). In brief view I see "16". I've switched to thumbnail view in TC and TC showed "256" in file's thumbnail. But when I inserted same icon into an executable file TC showed "32" in same thumbnail view.

I don't think it is useful to work with program folders in thumb view but it seems that TC doesn't extract large icon sizes from executables. Same thing I can see in brief view when I set icon size to 48x48 in configuration dialog. I've renamed a file for every test to avoid caching issues.

the icons that represent vdeo files are 48x48 I can set them to what I want in list view but how do I set them to 48x48 in thumbnail view? I have tried changing the size in - Thumbnails - thumbnail size I made them 120x120 but the icons dont increase in size the only thing that changes is the outer line that is drawn around them is a larger area. The same thing happens using explorer - an outerline is drawn around the icon - but the icon itself is shown as its full 48x48 this doesnt happen in TC So changing this value only seems useful to display photographs bigger size not icons.

The problem that TC doesn't display large icons for files where no thumbnail is available still exists in TC 8.5.

Explorer left vs. TC right

The problem in this example are mainly the icons for PDF files.

In my tests, many programs only contain 32x32 (or max 48x48) icons, which looks just ugly when blown up to such a large size. Why do you think that this would be an improvement?

Btw, the next version will let the user choose the icon size in thumbnails, it's already implemented.

Well of course I'm against blowing up icons but you should use larger icons if they are there (the above linked screenshot is a good example).

I'm not sure if a setting makes sense.

The post is old but if someone is interested how to do it in ver. 8.5 take a look bellow
configuration > thumbnails > size 96x96 > I change it to 196 > apply
latter, the program automatically rounded it up to 200x200

If you want to see a specific picture - rename it to folder.jpg

TC uses a multiple of 8, some functions require it.
