Selecting a file amongst 6000

Post by *ndn »

Hi,

I have a many folders with about 6000 text files in each. I regularly need to search for a different file in the 6000, then view it say in the editor.

So far I have used the keypad + to select without having to scroll to the page where the file is highlighted, then F3 to open for edit. Unfortunately, F4 doesn’t work to open this. Is this an option. Is there any other way to conveniently and regularly select one file in a folder of 6000 without having to scroll to the file name?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Me think, you could use TCs' command line box at the bottom, and just start typing.

Or, if it is always the same file name, create an button or even an user command to assign and keyboard shortcut to.

You could also use the Quick filter/search (Ctrl+S) to "reduce" the file list to the one you want to have and then press F4.

Or, you could set the normal Quick search to "Letter only" and just start typing the file name.

Hi Stefan and Dalai,

Thank you very much. Both solutions provide what I am looking for, with subtle differences for now expanded use.

Much appreciated.
