TC9: Multi-rename tool - Thread (English)

Post by *Stefan2 »

Multi-rename tool wrote: Dialog box to select range of characters, click on [N#-#]: Show preview of selected range in lower left
New button to add range of characters from other default fields
New button to add other default fields like parent directory name [P]
Now that is great for learning. Well done, Christian.

Multi-rename tool wrote: If there are duplicate names, or names that already exist, offer to auto-rename to "name (2).ext", "name (3).ext" etc.
Thanks for implementing, First test works fine.

Some thought:

Dialog box to select range of characters: -----> "F1 key" does nothing. Could point to "Dialog box - Multi-rename tool"?
17.06.16 Fixed: Multi-rename tool: No help in range picker dialog, open multi-rename tool page (32/64)

New button to add other default fields ± : -----> "[1-] - Whole path" is missing, on purpose?
Exist already under [#] button: [#-#] Full path+ name

It took me a long time to notice those two new buttons. May I suggest a little change in the layout like this http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/multirename.png

I think It is easier to notice the two small buttons if the size of the "[C] Counter" and the "[=?] Plugin" buttons is the same as the buttons above them.

If the new buttons could be just a couple of pixels wider it wouldn't hurt either.

I would suggest to use so called split buttons. They require less width as the separator requires less width compared to the spacing between the buttons. The dropdown arrow also requires less width as the current button caption. There is also no layout problem, the overall complexity of the dialog remains unchanged. And - they look better.

I'd prefer such UI elements, too. But the last time I suggested using split buttons (or spinners instead of scrollbars attached to text boxes) ghisler said, that they were not available on Win9x so they couldn't be used in TC.

I hope Christian will no longer see Win9x compatiblity as a design criteria
for TC 9
