[9.0b10-12] ALT+F2 doesn't work (x32/x64)

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[9.0b10-12] ALT+F2 doesn't work (x32/x64)

Post by *norti »

Hi!

It may be not (only) TC related, but since b09-10 the ALT+F2 shortcut key for right drive drop down menu does not work for me, only the ALT+F1 for the left drive. TC doesn't do anything if I press the keys and yes, they are working. It affects only 1 computer of mine, so it's a strange thing.

I tried to set up the key combination in the settings again, but it seems it doesn't work for anything... And tried to look for other running programs key shortcuts, but as much as I found not one of them is using ALT+F2.

How can I find out what steals that key combo from TC?

My OS is W10 Pro x64 with the Anniversary Update.
Thank you.

Alt+F2 works here for opening drive combobox - so it must be something on your system grapping Alt+F2.

Testet with TC9b12 32-and 64 bit on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10.

My Win 10 is not the Anniversary Update - it hasn't been offered yet in my language.

you may try Windows Hotkey Explorer to check current hotkeys used by Windows.

Be warned that Hotkey Explorer doesn't work correctly on Windows 8 and newer: It generates/sends every hotkey possible, which causes all kinds of troubles. Apparently it tries to intercept them to find out which program reacts to them, but fails to do so, so the hotkeys are actually executed.

You can use Nirsoft hot_keys_list tool to find out whether Alt+F2 is defined as a global hotkey, but it will not tell you which program has registered it:

Thank you very much for the Nirsoft utility, I found out now that the ALT+F2 is definitely locked by the system for something in normal mode, and not locked in safe mode.
Now I just need to check every runnning service, process and app and disable them one by one to find out which is causing the system wide binding.

Most of the shortcuts are for Nvidia Share and two are standard Win hotkeys, so only the ALT+F2 stays.

I'll post a reply if I find out what is causing this, so others will find it easier in the future.

UPDATE:
It took me one hour testing and several Google searches to find out that Nvidia Ansel locks the shortcut. I'll try to reinstall the driver without it and hope that this solves the problem now.

I hope they will rework it asap to not interfere with other programs.

Thanks for the info. Btw, TC also supports Alt+Shift+F2, so try using that instead.
