Symbolic links icons exclamation

Post by *HAL 9000 »

In TC8x symbolic links in Windows 7/8/10 like "Documents and Settings" did not have exclamation mark on them (yes, they are hidden and system but they are not "real" so this was perfect behavior for me...)

In TC9x this is not the case. I can choose to have exclamation on hidden/system icons but then symbolic links also have exclamations and this is looking weird and ugly... :? Try it for yourself. Can we have standard behavior on symbolic links like in previous TC version?

Thanks,
regards

TC9 is able to draw overlays over all icons while TC8 could only draw them over standard file/folder icons.

You can remove hidden/system attribute from those links if you see them too often. Also you can use custom TC iconlib with modified hidden overlay as I did.

Thank you. But..that's not the point... Also removing attributes from those symbolic links is not good advice at all, changing attributes just because of "TC visuals" it not worth it.

I just wanted to note that TC8 behavior looked better and more functional than TC9 regarding that specific feature so maybe author will reconsider and add another user option for this. In this current state we can't get exact behavior like it was in previous version unless custom mod is used.

It's not exactly a mod you need to use. I saved the icons from TC8's totalcmd(64).exe to some ICL file and use that unmodified. The "trick" here is that TC9 can't find the overlay icon in this IconLib so it uses the normal icons for hidden files/directories instead.

However, you're right that it looks really bad, hence my thread about it.
