Help What are the windows registry keys in TC 9 x64 ?

Post by *PiotrMP06 »

What are the windows registry keys in Total Commander 9 x64?

Total Commander 8.52 x64 had registry keys:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ghisler"
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ghisler"

Well, actually, the keys are
  • "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ghisler\Total Commander"
  • "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ghisler\Total Commander"
in both cases, Total Commander 8.52a and Total Commander 9.0.
Means Total commander does not store any version specific subkeys.
Means, too, that the content of the 2 keys will always be set by the last Total Commander installation which you have done using the T.C. installer.

Why Total Commander 9.0 x64 (tcmd900x64.exe) on Windows 7x64 use key

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Ghisler\Total Commander"

Please check....

The installer creates this key, not TC. IMO it's superfluous that the installer does this, but I can see why it's done (so TC 32 bit setup can find existing installations).

Key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ghisler\Total Commander" in version x64 is not created and not used.

TC 8.52a x64 used key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ghisler\Total Commander"

Why?...

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Ghisler\Total Commander"

is the same as

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ghisler\Total Commander"

But \WOW6432Node is used by 32-bit applications on 64-bit OS.

Me think it depends, which installer/setup.exe you had used.

<irony on>
I really love the holy mess which Microsoft has created with its twisted implementation of 64-bit Windows and its 32-bit subsystem.
I am so sad that Linux has never adopted this twisted Microsoft approach.
