Pressing Move (F6) on FTP files initiates a rename

Post by *avada »

Hi!

I tried to move some ftp files via hotkey from an ftp folder but instead the rename feature was activated. Same thing happened with clicking the button on the bottom.

Moving files from/to an FTP server is not supported: If you move a file in wrong mode (e.g. text as binary or vice versa), then the target file will be unusable, and the source file will be gone! Also some ftp servers report "Transfer OK" even for aborted transfers. It's just too risky.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Ah, okay then.
Though falling back to renaming instead of an error message explaining this leads to unexpected behavior for the user. And might lead to accidental renaming.
