feature request: calculate time for the whole queue copy

Post by *rubo77 »

it would be handy to see the overall progress of the move/copy-queue, how long the whole queue will need.
there could be three progressbars:
one for each file,
one for each entry in the queue
and one for the whole progress

That presumes you know the size of every file in the queue - this might not be easy with FTP ...

i didnt think about ftp, but for file copy on your own drives it would be handy.

i thought it would be the same feature like already exists:
when you copy one folder on your drives, then you also see one progressbar for each file and another for the whole folder

Can be informative but did you consider the speed implications?

The solution would be to separate FTP queues from other queues. This already exists partially: When you copy a file with F5, and then click the "Background" button, it will not use the queue, but a separate background window, with an overall progress bar, speed, and remaining time.

I'm sorry, Christian, but I just can't get what all this is about. Is it about local copy or FTP? Or is it about "six and a half"? Can you give more details?[/face]

It's about local copy: When you start local copy in the foreground, it has an overall progress bar and speed calculation. When you then move this to background, the overall progress bar is kept. This isn't possible with the background transfer manager, because the total amount of data isn't always available (e.g. with files from multiple servers or ftp subdirs in the queue).

I see now, thank you. But how this fact relater with BTM? Or do you mean this is how it would show progress for local operations after you separate FTP queues from other queues?

Well, but Commander calculates overall progress time e.g. for FTP synchronization with subdirs, or did I missed something? Anyway, it just can show overall progress only in cases it can be calculated...[/face]
