Is there a workaround for multiple rars inside zips?

Post by *AdamBN »

Hi,

Is there a workaround that would allow me to extract a file from multiple rar files that are inside multiple zip files?

Right now if I have 6 rar files inside their own zip files and everything inside a big zip file, I have to:

1. Double-click on each zip and then drag the individual rars to the right pane (a temp directory) . (Do this SIX times)
2. Then change the left pane to the desired destination directory and drag the file from the first rar to extract it.

This gets pretty time-consuming and irritating!

Any suggestions to make this simplier. Seached the help, FAQ and forum without finding alternatives, so I DID try to read the instructions first!

Is there something obvious that I have missed?

Thanks for your help!

Best regards from The Land of Enchantment! (New Mexico, USA!)

Adam :D

For the first part:
Instead of repeating the 1st step 6 times you just have to select all the zip files you want to unzip.
Manually with the mouse
Or automaticaly: select one zip file then "CTRL & "Numpad +" then you'll get all the zip files in the directory selected

Then you just have to unzip all the files directly :
"crtl+F9"
or
menu->File->Unpack ...
-->All the files will be unzipped...

For the second part:
You can open a new tab to the desire final directory before starting the first point, then switch between them with TAB & CTRL+TAB ...

Am I clear ?
I Hope it'll help ...

1. Copy that big zip file to some empty directory;
2. Select it;
3. "Alt"+"F6", "Del", "Enter";
4. Delete that big zip file;
5. "Ctrl"+"Gr+", "Alt"+"F6", "Del", "Enter";
6. Select one of zip files, "Alt"+"Gr+", "Del", "Enter";
7. "Ctrl"+"Gr+", "Alt"+"F6", "Del", "Enter";
8. Select one of rar files, "Alt"+"Gr+", "Del", "Enter".[/face]

Thanks for the swift reply!

Tried the first option and when I did CTRL+F9 got a response of "This function can not be used with packed files"

When I tried menu/files/unpack, I got an exact duplicate of the first directory (zips with rars inside).

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks again for the help!

Hi, Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately I get lost after step 3.

Ctrl"+"Gr+", ???????? Gr+?

Sorry to be so dense, but I guess my Alzheimers is bad today!

Thanks again,

If this is a regular process for you, you might consider using the tool
TC.Script.Editor:

I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

I'm sorry, I made a mistake ...

To unpack all the zip files it's : "ALT + F9"

"CTRL+F9" is meant to print a file ....

The unpack file method work fine for me ....

What options did you use in the unpack dialog ?

Sorry to point to another small mistake:

I suppose you ment "Alt & Gr+" for selecting all zip-files?! btw: you don't have to select a first file, because the function works on the extension the focus is on.

AdamBN, you might also want to take a look at a great freeware utility called Unziplify. More info at:

Hope this helps!

2Klark:
"select one zip file" could mean :

A:"get the focus on & select it "
B: "get the focus on"

It you use the mouse it depends on the click you made (& TC config):
Left-> B
Right-> A

For my config of course...but I'd rather use the keyboard for such operations

Thanks to everyone for their swift help!

This is sure a nice forum community!

Unzipifly seems to work the easiest, and I very much appreciate the referral. Had mixed success with the other suggestions even after I went back and changed my packer/unzip config to default (no reference to WinRar, etc).

Thanks again for the great assistance!

Best regards from New Mexico, USA! :D :D :D :D
