Thumbnails not shown

TC 9.12 and 9.20b1, x32/x64 under Win7.

I enable thumbnail view in a panel. The folder contains images (bmp, gif, etc.), the images are not shown as thumbnails though (or at least not ALL images). I only see the default application icon with which the images are opened. What could cause that?

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

OK, never mind that. It seems there's a problem with my PC. I experience the same behaviour in Explorer too...
