Possible forum upgrade

Post by *wanderer »

Hi.

This task (forum update to phpbb3) has been discussed in the past but Christian had decided to take no action. IIRC, everybody agreed that it would be nice to have a newer phpbb version with all the new goodies (templates for smartphones, perhaps more secure? etc) and also everybody recognized and understood that this is a large task which would require a substantial amount of (Christian's) time not only for the upgrade itself, but also for the parametrization of the new forum and the updating and patching required the first several months until it comes to a level at which Christian would feel happy.

Simple question: is there a chance of it happening in the relatively near future (i.e. this decade)? :) It would be refreshing...

Yes, I have already looked at it and plan to do it after the beta test ends. It may take a bit longer afterwards when there are bugs requiring a TC 9.20a or 9.21 version. I don't want to risk a non-working forum during a beta test.

Wow. Great news! Thanks for the reply.

BTW, that's a correct procedure to follow. TC comes first, forum upgrade is #2.

Anyway, if you wish to beta-test the new forum setup, we're here. :)

Yes, that's the plan - first just import the users, test and make changes, and then import the forum structure and posts.
