changing the case sensitivity of files inside subdirs
Hey All
Long time listener first time caller
Is there a way to change the case sensitivity of the files inside the sub directory and not just the sub directory itself?
Thanks for any help chaps.

Re: changing the case sensitivity of files inside subdirs
If what you mean is changing the case of the names of the files in a sub directory, you can do it by entering inside the sub directory and press Ctrl-B ("Branch View (With Subdirs)" command) to obtain a list of every file in the sub directory and in all of its sub directories. Then you can select whatever file you want, even all of them, and change their case with the "Multi-Rename Tool" (Ctrl-M).

Re: changing the case sensitivity of files inside subdirs
sorry what i mean is
i have some files in directories as well as directories with capitals and small letters.
i want to change the files to all small without having to go into the sub directory as you can use the multi rename tool to rename the directory to small letters but not the contents of the directory.
hope this explains myself better, sorry for being unclear
p.s. ctrl+b does work
thank you
but i was just asking if it can be done from a single selection of the root directory?

Re: changing the case sensitivity of files inside subdirs
As far as I know, there is no other way to do what you want but to go into the sub directory and select the files to rename, because the multi rename tool works only on the selected files / directories.

Re: changing the case sensitivity of files inside subdirs
Try that:
Rename in all sub folders the 'Directory names only' to lower case, ignore all files.
FROM:
Main\Folder NAME\FileName.ext
Main\Sub Folder\Folder NAME\FileName.ext
TO:
Main\folder name\FileName.ext
Main\sub folder\folder name\FileName.ext
USE:
- Open the top main folder in TC
- launch the Search
- check [Advanced] Attribute [x]Directory
- start the search (note the 'search sub folders' drop&down box)
- hold Shift-key and click [feed to listbox]
- Ctrl+A
- Ctrl+M
- Name mask: [L][N] (click [Help] button to read more)
- start renaming
- close the MRT

Works?
Always test with some test files first.
Or, if something went wrong, open immediately the MRT (Multi-Renaming Tool) again and click [Undo]

I just got a thing for lowercase that's all
i just want ALL files on my server storage to be lowercase..
so i just did a linux script which includes dirs and files...
i think the ctrl+b is about the easiest i will get out of tc for windows
and then i will rename directories seperately
but thanks for all your effort.
Re: changing the case sensitivity of files inside subdirs
Of course that would have been possible too (even w/o Linux), if you just had mentioned that at first place.

1. Press Alt+F7
2. Search for: blank or *
3. Click "Search"
4. Click "Feed to listbox"
5. Select everything - both dirs and files (Ctrl+Num+ or Shift+Ctrl+Num+ depending on your setup of "Operation")
6. Ctrl+M
7. Set Rename mask = [N], Extension = [E], Upper/lowercase = all lowercase
8. Click "Start!"
If you use the Search approach, but search for everything not just directories you can change it for both files and dirs at the same time:i think the ctrl+b is about the easiest i will get out of tc for windows
