Find Files in separate process on low priority

Post by *DrShark »

When I didn't need to get search results as soon as possible for long time search (on all drives), I started Find Files in separate process, set lowest priority for that process in Task Manager, and tried to start a search. All 3 times I tried this Find Files separate process crashed (twice during a search, once even before search started: it deadly hang in drives selection dialog).

It would be nice if Total Commander's Find Files, started as a separate process, would me more hang and crash resistant. It would allow to start some not important searches with as low priority as possible, so other apps that need more importance at the moment would have higher priority for Windows and be more responsive.

I cannot reproduce any crashes in separate search. Did you get any error messages?

I only had messages from Windows that application crashed and Windows will close TOTALCMD.EXE (separate FindFiles process.) I've sent kdmp dump of a hang+crash in drives selection dialog of separate Find Files today in email with subject:
[2] TC crashes on lowest priority sep. process search
and a minidump of a crash that happened during search in email from March 6, 2019 with a subject:
TC crashes on lowest priority sep. process search

Both sent to support email.
