My apologies, The crash is only on my work dell, At home running the same program with the same search parameters on the same drive resulted in NO crash. Home system is Asus i7 running Windows 7. Evidently when big brother is watching over you it can screw up your search engine.
Thanks for the patience.

Could you try stopping this openmanage-client-instrumentation-omci software for which you got the stack traces? Maybe it is interfering with the search function somehow.

That code is part of the company's IT toolkit for remote debugging. Since im a contract engineer they just might frown on it. Its not something i can turn off without approval.

I see - maybe you can ask them to disable it temporarily to find out whether it is causing the problem or not.

I was unable to get my IT department to try to disable the dell program however....There is another product called multi-commander that has a file search feature. It crashes in the same way that total commander crashes. Before the search is finished the search box closes as well as multi commander closing. My money is on the dell software not yours .

Maybe you can try to report the bug to Dell?

What's the last directory shown in the search dialog status line before it disappears?
