Uninstaller crashes

Post by *Holyhead »

I tried to uninstall TC 9.5 and the uninstall crashes when clicking 'Entfernen' on the uninstall options dialog.

Call stack:
shell32.dll!SHGetPathFromIDListAlloc() Unknown
shell32.dll!SHGetPathFromIDListEx() Unknown
shell32.dll!SHGetPathFromIDListA() Unknown
TCUNIN64.EXE!000000000040189d() Unknown

Not confirmed. I guess that was on the same Windows 10 1809 installation where you had all the other problems. I have run the uninstaller on this Windows version, and removed TC 9.50 successfully from it.
The uninstaller hasn't been changed since October 2017, as you can see by its signature. I haven't received any other bug reports.
As written in my replies to your other reports, it's probably a damaged Windows 10 installation.

Could you please try this updated uninstaller?
https://www.totalcommander.ch/beta/tcunin64.exe

The error seems to occur only when:
- uninstalling all settings (you can cancel that before they really get removed)
- the thumbnail database location uses a virtual path variable like %$LOCAL_APPDATA%\GHISLER
- the uninstaller is run above the 4GB limit

I've executed the beta uninstaller with the default options:
+ remove program
+ remove desktop icon
+ remove start menu entry
Do not remove .ini files.

This installer executed without crash and successfully uninstalled my TC 9.50 x64 installation.

Note: My PC has 32 GB. I am not aware of any setting or tool enforcing the application to run above 4 GB. VMMap reports 0x400000 as address of the TCUNIN64exe image and the system dlls are mapped above 4gb.

You need to check the option to remove the .ini files to trigger the error. Don't worry, you will be asked again before they get removed. Just cancel deleting them.

I retried with the remove .ini files setting checked and also did not get any error (I cancelled the deletion of the settings when asked).

OK, sounds promising - hopefully this change will also fix the crashes you have with tabs and menus.

The uninstaller of TC 9.51x64 RC2 is fixed.
But the tab and menu problems remain.
