TC exits after copying file

Post by *downunder »

For some reason, TC just exits after copying one file. I upgraded to the latest version but I observe the same behavior. What could it be?

How exactly do you copy a file? There are several ways to do that: drag'n'drop, Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V, F5 copy. And for the latter, there are several copy methods available (Configuration > Options > Copy/Delete > Copy Method. Does it happen independently from the source/destination of the copy?

Also, please describe in more detail what exactly happens. Does TC crash, including some crash report (from either TC or Windows)? Or does it just close without any more dialog? If so, how long does it take before TC closes?

I copy with F5, "standard" method in the configuration. The TC just closed without any message. After some experiments, it looks like it is closed if I copy large video files (>100MB, mkv,mp4,avi). Smaller files looks ok.

Please answer the question regarding the source/destination of the files being copied, and how long it takes TC to close.

Also: Does the copy finish before TC closes or does it close without completing it? Does TC overwrite any files, or does it also happen when creating a fresh copy?

How I do that?

The source and destination do not matter. I tried the same drive, remote drive (NAS).
If I copy to the same directory (with a new name and the same extension) everything is working as expected. Copying to another directory halts the TC.

Yes, it does finish copying.

The strange thing is that if I copy the file and change the extension to a non-media everything is working fine. By if I keep the extension, TC just exists immediately after copying.

Start TC like this:

Code: Select all

totalcmd.exe /i="%TEMP%\fresh.ini"
Replace totalcmd.exe with totalcmd64.exe if you use TC 64-bit.

Do you use thumbnails view in any of the TC panels? If so, TC would read the file's contents and a shell extension could be the culprit (which I've been suspecting from the beginning).

It does the same - exit after copying is complete.

I have a CrowdStrike. But there are no messages related to this issue.
Also, if I copy the same file into "q.q" and then rename, everything is working just fine. I don't believe antivirus is responsible.

Just turn it off and try again.

Can't what - turn CrowdStrike off or copy files properly? Can you change CrowdStrike settings to make some exclusions (for example exclude source and target folders for copy or exclude TC folder)? Do you have to ask your corporate admin to do anything with this case?

Try disabling icons in Configuration - Options - Icons: No icons

If this helps, the problem is caused by an icon handler or icon overlay handler.

CrowdStrike configuration is locked and I cannot change it. Going through corporate IT is a hard and lengthy process I want to avoid at all cost.

Unfortunately, it did not help.

Is there a debug mode?
