SSD device not recognized

Post by *extelligenzia »

Hi i have a labtop and have external ssd. The DEVICE is recognized (drive letter) but windows (and some other programs ) is not defining it as an ssd. so IOBIT does not see it as a ssd, but auslogic does see it as a ssd.
So regarding delete files does total commander define it as ssd, or not? (meaning does TC uses trim when i delete files) or have i totally missunderstood something as i have read there is a difference when deleting files on ssd or "normal" hd.
As some programs are seeing it as ssd, then i could be lucky and TC also see it as an ssd (the program: crystalmark is showing "trim supported") and i have trim set in windows (again this does not make windows define it as ssd). are there a place where i can see if TC is defining the device as ssd, and does it matter?
i am not even sure its the correct question, but TC is the program i use every day to delete copy, ... files.
Can anyone clarify this issue ? . as it is now i simply delete the files, and then uses auslogic to trim the ssd.
i assumed the ssd itself "internally" would run the trim command, and not require the OS/program to know.
its nice to have a brain that can think, then I dont need to

Programs don't need to be aware of the drive type, and they certainly don't issue TRIM commands to an SSD. The OS takes care of that, provided it supports it (Windows 7 and higher do).

Like any other application, TC does not use or care about SSD/SMR trimming. Trimming is handled by the OS (and the storage drivers, respectively) transparently. Applications are not responsible for trimming, don't participate in any way in trimming and don't care about trimming (with the exception of SSD-specific diagnostics utilities, which might have features to manually trigger trim operations)

TC is unrelated to your problem. There is either something bonkers in your OS, or with the drive itself.
