PDF Viewer plugin for TC 64-bit in 2021?

Post by *monstro »

Hello.
I like a lot how I could view PDF files inside TC.
However, none of the available plugins work anymore with Windows 64-bit as of 2021.
Please advise if there are any PDF plugins that I can use today?
Thanks.

Don't know where you are looking for PDF plugins
but the SLister plugin which uses SumatraPDF is available as x64 since 2011.
http://totalcmd.net/plugring/slister.html
After installing it I suggest to replace the SumatraPDF files with the newer ones from the portable archive at
https://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/prerelease.html
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3374)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.69
QAP 11.6.3.2 x64

Make sure to use the 64-bit SumatraPDF exe with the 64-bit plugin! It will not work with the 32-bit exe.

Another alternative would be the ulister plugin.

From https://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm and https://totalcmd.net/directory/lister.html:
These are all 32bit, so they don't work with TC64:

Sumatra PDF based plugin 0.8.1, 32bit only
sLister - view more file formats, 32bit only
Sumatra PDF based plugin 0.8.1, 32bit only
MultiLister (former PDF Filter) 1.50a, 32bit only
PDFView 1.08, 32bit only
ActivePDFView 1.0, 32bit only
Sumatra PDF based plugin 0.8.1, 32bit only

sLister 1.1.2, 64bit - didn't work with SumatraPDF that comes with it, crashed TC,
after I replaced SumatraPDF exe with the latest downloaded, it worked. Thank you!

Is this the only working PDF plugin for TC 64bit?

Thanks.

PDFView 1.09 includes a 64-bit plugin (and the TC site you linked also says 32+64-bit), but it requires an installed GhostScript. And there is uLister, as already mentioned by Ghisler.

On a second site it is listed only as 32bit.
Yes, I tried the 64bit version, but it doesn't work either on my PC for some reason.
Will try uLister later.
Thank you guys !!

The included SumatraPDF binary is 10 years old and thus quite outdated. It is compressed with a run-time compressor called MPRESS (similar to UPX), which most probably is the reason why it fails to run on today's system environments.

Currently, it's the only plugin available both for 32-bit/64-bit architecture not requiring any additional software environment (like Ghost script or Oracle libraries) to work. It is a very basic plugin, that just passes the listing request from Total Commander to SumatraPDF. SumatraPDF handles the actual listing, zooming, rotating, printing, and it does this very well and quickly. Even Total Commander's quick view function (CTRL-Q] is supported.

Besides the mentioned ulister:
I unofficially patched and recompiled the "Sumatra PDF based plugin 0.8.1" for x64 some time ago:
viewtopic.php?p=336677#p336677

But beware that the code is quite old and might have security problems (like the 32-bit version).

TC 10.00 64 bits not works with wlx_pdfview_109.zip. After installation of gs9550w64.exe the error is:
"Could not load GhostScript environment!"

I don't understand any try to play with a outdated plugin.
Using the SLister plugin together with actual SumatraPDF files works perfect in 32/64 TC.

There is an advantage to use GhostScript instead of Sumatra to view some pdf.

I stopped years ago to use Ghostscript.
If you have PDFs which can't be viewed with SumatraPDF you may have to use it
but I have a lot of PDFs and they all display fine with SumatraPDF.

Adjust the installation path ... exepath=.
(Please see ReadMe.txt in %COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\wlx\pdfview\)

%COMMANDER_PATH%\lsplugin.ini

Code: Select all

exepath=C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.55.0\bin\gswin64c.exe
... so that this error message no longer appears when the plug-in is called up (Ctrl+Q, F3) to display the preview for a pdf file:
Could not load GhostScript environment!

Please make sure, that you have the latest GhostScript version installed.
(At least Aladdin Ghostscript 5.50)

That's also my opinion and my favourite plugin for previewing pdf files.

i am using slister with SumatraPDF.exe v. 2.2.0.6479 in C:\totalcmd\plugins\wlx\sLister2020
is there a way to configure pdf view to start in page view instead of scrolling pages?
maybe cofiguring sumatrapdfprefs.dat? that would be helpfull.
