Limit Searching a Drive

Post by *btreloar »

Whenever I've misplaced a file so thoroughly that I need to search the entire C: drive for it, I long for a way to exclude system directories like C:\Windows and C:\System Volume Information and such. My misplaced file is exceedingly unlikely to be in one of those directories and there's SO much in there that a search of the drive takes unnecessarily long.

Am I missing such a feature? Or would this become a Wish List item?

Its very simple, use Everything in TC and you get the result in a few seconds
regardless of the size of your disc.
Of course you can also make a TC Ignore list and switch this on before you search.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3374)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.69
QAP 11.6.3.2 x64

You can exclude directories by putting them after a | in the "Search for" field - for example:

Code: Select all

myfile.txt | windows\ "System Volume Information\"
License #524 (1994)
Danish Total Commander Translator
TC 11.03 32+64bit on Win XP 32bit & Win 7, 8.1 & 10 (22H2) 64bit, 'Everything' 1.5.0.1371a
TC 3.50b4 on Android 6 & 13
Try: TC Extended Menus | TC Languagebar | TC Dark Help | PHSM-Calendar
