TC10.52RC3: TC doesn't list the folder content in tooltips like Explorer

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

TC10.52RC3: TC doesn't list the folder content in tooltips like Explorer

Post by *Slavic »

In Configuration, Display there is an option: Help texts, Comments from Explorer (OLE2). When selected, it shows the tooltips for files and dirs under mouse cursor which are supposed the same as Explorer shows in its tooltips. However, TC doesn't show any name of content, at least in Windows 11.

Explorer folder tooltips show the date created, folder size (in most cases), 1-5 folder names and 1-5 file names (if present) or "Empty folder".
TC folder tooltips show only the date created. Tooltips for the files, on the other side, are equal to Explorer.

At least, having the folder size or "Empty folder" in folder tooltips would be much better.

You can accomplish that by using for example the ShellDetails content plugin
License #524 (1994)
Danish Total Commander Translator
TC 11.03 32+64bit on Win XP 32bit & Win 7, 8.1 & 10 (22H2) 64bit, 'Everything' 1.5.0.1371a
TC 3.50b4 on Android 6 & 13
Try: TC Extended Menus | TC Languagebar | TC Dark Help | PHSM-Calendar

Total Commander shows the tooltip texts provided by shell extensions of type "InfoTip Handler". You can view them with ShellExView. The folder content preview in Windows 11 Explorer does not seem to be provided by such an InfoTip handler. Instead, the Windows 11 Explorer seems to add this information by itself. Currently I don't have any plans to add this myself manually to Total Commander. I recommend that you fillow petermad's advice to add such information.
