Change date/time not working for remote directory

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Change date/time not working for remote directory

Post by *Thany »

It doesn't do anything on a remote SMB directory. It works fine on a local directory.

To reproduce:
1. Go to a remote (SMB share) directory.
2. File -> Change attributes, and tick Change date/time
3. Enter 19/11/2021 and 00:36
4. Hit OK

Result:
The date/time is NOT changed. Stays exactly the same.

Expected:
The date/time changes to whatever I input.

It might help to know that copying files and directory while preserving dates/times, works fine. This tells me TC is absolutely capable of doing this, and setting date/time ONLY via the dialog is broken.

Related problem: the format placeholder doesn't always show. And certainly doesn't always show completely. When having tried this once, opening this dialog a second time shows a date/time in those fields, not the placeholder. So the second time I have no way of knowing what format it expects.

Possible solution: use a datetime picker. Then at least the format doesn't have to be exactly as TC demands. Or allow different formats. Or use the system locale's format. Either way, this only fixes the format not showing, this probably won't fix set the date/time not working at all.

I'm on TC 10.52 x64, Windows 10 22H2.

NOT confirmed, must be a limitation of the target that you cannot change the timestamp.

I literally said this is completely possible.
It might help to know that copying files and directory while preserving dates/times, works fine.
Is there anything I can try that will give you more information on this issue?

You could check in the properties of the file. When clicking on Security - Advanced, there is a tab "Effective rights". Choose your user and then click on the button to show the effective access rights. One right is "Write attributes".
