TC 10.52: Access violation when using external SyncDirs with VeraCrypt

Post by *EricB »

I accidently stumbled upon a scenario where I got an access violation.

What was I doing: TC 10.52 32bit portable on Win10 Pro 22H2. I mounted two Veracrypt volumes of which one was on an external SSD. I fired up a second TC instance for SyncDirs (%COMMANDER_EXE% /S=S:= with parameters "%X%Z%P" "%T") using a button. Subdirs, Compare by Content and Ignore date checkboxes were all checked. While comparing the two large directory trees this access violation was displayed and the second TC instance became unresponsive:

---------------------------
Total Commander 10.52

Access violation at address 0632291F. Read of address 00000001.

This seemed to be reproducible a few times. In a clear moment I tried the same scenario with TC 10.52 x64, and there it did not happen. My best guess is a memory leak or limitation.

Sorry for the delay - I have checked this now, and it happens when calling a content plugin to compare two files.
Could you tell me which content plugin you have configured for comparison?

Well, late to the party.... Although reading the forum regularly, I hardly ever log in and completely missed this question.... also got no mail indication.
I have a bunch of content plugins installed, but those are mostly for custom columns.

For SyncDirs I've installed two wdx plugins:
skipcompare.Mark wdx : to skip comparison of files > 1 Gb (speed reasons)
Image.Content wdx: to compare image content iso binary comparison (image header may vary a bit)

I'm not sure if this is still of any use? I'll check if I can reproduce with current 11.02 version.

If you still get the bug, you can try to not use one of the two to find out which one is causing it.
