Mmedia 2.62 Crashes my x64 TC. Alternatives?

Post by *risk »

I've used Mmedia for years so I can listen to MP3 files by pressing Ctrl-Q. Now, when I Ctrl-Q, it takes awhile to start playing the file and when I press Ctrl-Q again, it crashes TC. Are there alternatives for playing audio files and possibly showing or editing Media Tag info?

Did you try using the statically linked version instead of the dynamically linked one (or vice versa)? Also: Which version exactly are you using, 2.6.2.0 or 2.6.2.1? If the latter, did you try to update the included MediaInfo DLLs?

Using the x64 Unicode single static file version, the info page just says 2.6.2.

Thanks for the reply.

The file version information should say the exact version number, in your case it's probably 2.6.2.0 (judging from your posts here).

Try version 2.6.2.1 from this post: https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=311232#p311232 to see if it's more stable. If not, you should specify which exact file types and exact codecs will cause a crash (use MediaInfo to get that info), and investigate in the direction of codec packs and such. Also, check with Windows Media Player. IIRC MMedia uses its interface, so WMP might also crash. Plugin alternatives might have the same issues as MMedia if they're relying on system codecs, so it wouldn't change anything in regards to stability.

The version 2.6.2.1 on the post is not available, can someone upload the 2.6.2.1 version of mmedia? Thank you.

Oops, I thought the file is still available. I'm pretty sure it's the same file (timestamp on my disk is 2016-06-23), so I've uploaded it: https://filehorst.de/d/ctJbazIb

For mmedia plugin work correctly, in your system must be installed Windows Media Player. In my Windows 10 it was uninstalled or not installed originally. Installed it here:
Options > Applications > Applications and components > Manage additional components > Add component > Windows Media Player > Install.
May the power be with you.
