Directory menu "Remove directory" obsolete and dangarous

Post by *igarny »

Dear Dev Team,

Please tell how to disable the fast key option selection "Remove directory" from the Directory's menu.Image: https://ibb.co/60W5RM3

I highly doubt it is a frequently used option, which cannot wait for a mouse selection, BUT it is very annoying to remove my current folder from the Bookmark list, especially in cases, it is built inside another list.

I would even advocate against all of the default fast option selection key assignments (add and configure), since that reduces the user ability to choose keys for their important and frequently used stuff.

Perhaps it can be removed in general, but if there is a way for me to achieved it, that would be sufficent.

Best regards,
Ivan

What do you mean with "the fast key option selection "Remove directory" " exactly ?

We have now this:
25.04.22 Added: Directory hotlist (Ctrl+D): For add/remove button and Configure, use hotkeys +, - and * instead of those defined in the translations (32/64)

In the Language folder of your TC program directory make a file: wcmd_eng.lng with this content:
1147="Remove current dir"

In TC's "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Language" choose: "English (WCMD_ENG.LNG)" as the language.

If you already have a wcmd_eng.lng file or you use another language file then find the line for string 1147 and edit it accordigly (remove the & character which sets the shortcut key).

I often use the Remove current dir.
This is in no way dangerous because no dir is removed from the disc,
only the entry in the hotlist.
So there is no need to change anything here !

Well
First of all I would like to praise you guys on the prompt response....
I see the word dangerous is a bit too exaggerated, but several time I had been in this annoying situation to remove an important folder by mistake.
I'll try to refrain myself from bad marketing in the future ;)

Of course @petermad has the exact and absolute solution....like always

I am quite curious to hear about the use case of @Horst.Epp and I am open to hear about new ways to use TC
perhaps I may find something useful and applicable in the daily management of files and folders
For now I have removed the fast key selection for these commands in the Directory menu.

Many thanks,
Ivan

P.S. case resolved

I must admit @Stefan2, also got me in the corner... indeed the update removes the issue and concerns I had

One minor suggestion from my side with regards the documentation ...
It would be great if we can speak in the same terms, which will improve the search experience of users in the forum.

In the TC menu and help files the term used is "Directory menu", while you refer to it as Directory Hotlist... Image: https://ibb.co/x5sCStP
I like the latter better

Both terms are used in the help. The * button is also called Directory hotlist.

FYI
You can configure the hotkeys for those two items using this in the [Configuration] section of your wincmd.ini
