[TC 11.00b2] FrequentlyUsedLen=0 does not clear the tcDirFrq.txt file

Post by *AntonyD »

Strictly speaking - everything is in the subject. Since this is the only logical option to disable the history of frequently used directories - then when setting the value to 0, it is necessary that the program automatically cleans up this file after itself to the level of the specified number of entries. As soon as a difference is found between the entered and actual values.

Does HistoryLen=0 clear out the history? If not, I don't think this parameter should do it either. The TC help describes the parameter as "Maximum number of ... names shown", it doesn't state anything about saving new items or not.

Still, it would be a good idea to have a parameter similar to SaveHistory that enables/disables the new frequently used feature.

So it is necessary to bring another parameter 'HistoryLen' to the same logic. Because otherwise it translates into constant self-care - with manual editing!
I can easily uncheck / tick some the checkbox (if it still existed somewhere in the settings), but for some reason they hang up the cleaning of personal data on me in a veiled form.
It would be nice if this file was always created by default in the folder with Total itself. This could still be understood - but when by default the file is created on the C drive - in the user profile - such "forgetfulness" cannot be taken as "everything is fine and logical".

FrequentlyUsedLen=0 only sets the number of most frequently used directories to be shown on Alt+Cursor down or click on the button.
It does not disable the function. When you press Alt+Shift+Cursor down, you will still get ALL entries of the most frequently used list.

You can either disable saving of the history altogether in Configuration - Options - Operation, which will disable saving to the most frequently used list too now in beta 2. Or you can set DirUsageLocation=0 in wincmd.ini to disable the function separately from the history.

Or, we should make it more intuitive to manage these TWO different groups of options (regular and Freq.UsedDirs) and help the user in general by making these and many more settings available from the settings wizard GUI.

Since there is a button now to clear the list, I will move this thread to fixed bugs.
