Provide a way of sorting rules in Find Files and other dialogs

Post by *petermad »

In some dialogs containing lists or rules, it is possible to sort the the list by a set of up-down arrows - for example for:
  • View Modes
  • Rules in Auto Switch Mode
  • Editing Custom columns
  • Lister plugins list
  • Content plugins list

It would be nice to have the same option for these three dialogs:
  1. Find Files -> Plugins
  2. Change attributes -> Plugins -> plugin attributes
  3. Configuration -> Plugins -> File system plugins list
The first one because the order is of importance when using OR - at least for the speed (if a rule is met, there is no need for checking the remainder rules when using OR).
The 1st and 2nd one because then it would be possible to move a rule to the bottom for removal with the "Fewer rules"/Fewer attributes" button. As it is now I have to remove all the rules below the one I want to get rid of, and then add all those rules again*
The 3rd one to be able to make a custom order that will be usable with the Unsorted option for the file panel. Presently I have to sort the wincmd.ini [FileSystemPlugins] section to obtain that.

* Another solution for this would be to change the "Fewer rules"/Fewer attributes" button to a "Delete active column" button like we have in the Edit Custom columns dialog.

I just entered the forum to write a similar suggestion. So, instead of remarks or comments, I paste the text I prepared earlier (with additional suggestion)

On configure custom columns window we have plugins fields which we can order or delete - even first one columns
http://gral.y0.pl/tc/changeatrributes.png

On change atrributes and search windows we can only delete last field.
http://gral.y0.pl/tc/customcolumns.png
http://gral.y0.pl/tc/search.png

If i load e.g saved set of 4 rules and at the moment only need third and fourth it's just impossible reuse saved set - i cannot delete first and second.
If possible make a change attributes and search windows behave more like configure custom columns.
So , please enable sorting or even better add checkboxes to enable/disable specific rule.

Also on search window could be very useful more advanced logical system.
Look here again http://gral.y0.pl/tc/search.png
Let's say i need a search for BMP or JPEG or PNG with height and width more than 256 pixels.
So i need OR operator for "iform" from wdx4i plugin but AND for height and width.
Already immposible. We need some similar to "Auto Switch Mode" settings.

Yes, that is definitely the best implementation!

But even in the "Auto switch mode" in the definitions, only the last rule can be deleted and order cannot be changed.

Unfortunately, those editors in different modules of TC are not consistent.

Just so that no misunderstandings arise:
It is the sub-rules.

You are right - a "Delete active column" would be preferable here too, instead of the present "Fewer sub-rules"

Summary: i suggest individual checkboxes for dialog windows instead or alongside already existing solution.
On "Change attributes" window - checkbox for every rule, checked/unchecked globaly with "Change plugin attributes" checkbox
Optionally - "Permanently disable unchecked rules" button instead "Fewer rules"

On "Change custom columns" individual checkboxes for all columns, on by default, when unchecked disable column temporary, for current session only,
button "Permanently disable unchecked columns" instead "Delete active column" - it's easier - just uncheck all unwanted columns and press button instead pressing button every time after set cursor on single column.

On search window, plugin tab - individual checkboxes for every rule with AND operator instead "Fewer rules".
Multiple groups of alternative option preferably with radio buttons for options and checkbox for group.

Similar solutions for all windows using content plugins

Individual checkboxes for disabling plugins/options for every possible config window (when it makes sense). Now, we can only disable internal associations.

All of this may be the subject of further discussion and improvement.

Yeah, all these dialog windows should be unified.
