[suggestion] Tree style tabs

Post by *[Yustas.NeO] »

This topic is continuation and evolution of the idea of Vertical tabs.

The idea of placing tabs not just vertically (getting a longer list than now), but also grouping and folding them - I like it more and more every day!
Grouping will make structure more convenient, and Folding will free up even more space.
I think it can be even implemented a new entity "empty tab" so that it can have its own name and be the root of the group.
Of course, it would be great to use Ctrl and Shift to select several tabs at once for the same actions.
I beg pardon for bad English.

Vertical tabs seem like an OK idea, until you actually start to use them.
Then it turns out to be a GREAT idea. Especially with horizontal panes.

Example (from Directory Opus):

In my case, I don't even need the horizontal panels, because I have to much free space in column Name ))
I beg pardon for bad English.

Ok, "empty tab" can be not actually empty, it can have a list of subordinate tabs..
I beg pardon for bad English.

Your suggestion works well in Directory Opus as shown. You, essentially, have a three column layout: tabs in the left "column", listers in the center "column" and viewer pane and metadata pane in the right "column." Unfortunately, TC has nothing like a sizeable viewer or metadata pane.

Thanks. I am aware (worth a suggestion though :) ), but i.m.o. would also work without the previeww- and metadata pane

If your file paths and names are very long then up/down listers are useful. If not, there is a lot of empty space so that left/right listers are more space efficient. Not to say empty space doesn't have its own benefits.

.. unless you want to show some extra ccolums. For example for metadata or descriptions.
