Feat. Request: Cursor behavior after deleting multiple files

Post by *PJohn »

hi,

currently after selecting multiple files and deleting them the cursor (the highlighted file) stays in the position it was in before deleting:

I would like an option that let's me select that the cursor will jump to the last file above the deleted files, the first file below, or the current behavior.

So in the example, after deleting, the cursor should be at file 02 (last file above), 06 (first file below), or 08 (current behavior).

If I delete a lot of unnumbered files the current behavior makes it hard to know where I was in the tree.

Just place the cursor on the unselected file that you want the cursor to be on after the deletion before you start the deleting.

If you are using the space.button to select files, you can put SpaceMovesDown=1 in the [Configuration] section of your wincmd.ini firl (remember to restart TC afterwards) - then the cursor will automatically move down when you select files - it makes it easier to have the cursor placed on an unmarked file.

I agree with PJohn that the current behavior is not expected by the user. This is perceived as a bug. The cursor should go down to the next undeleted file (as in Double Commander and other FM), and not the file going under the same number that was under the cursor.

Where should the cursor go if there are several blocks of selected files - to the file after the last block, even if that might not even be visible in the file panel, when the deletion starts? or to the first file after the block where the cursor currently is?

But it already does this, except when deleting empty folders (which is a bug).
