Packing to separate archives and unicode names

Post by *wanderer »

I'm packing multiple files, but with "create separate archive" checked. Now, i got a warning dialog saying : "You are trying to pack one or more files with Unicode names from a different codepage". This dialog offers some options. One of them is "Store ALL names as UTF-8". I pressed that but after a while, it appeared again. Is this option valid only when you are packing the files in a single zip? If so, why not apply it to all zips when "Store ALL names as UTF-8" is pressed? Or perhaps there is a bug here?

It probably applies to the current ZIP archive only. If you want to avoid this confirmation message, set Options > Zip packer > Pack Unicode names according to your needs.

7zip format avoids these problems.
What's the reason to still use zip format ?

The thread title doesn't accurately describe the subject. I suggest to change it, for example to:
  • Packing to separate archives and dialogs for storing unicode names from different codepages

Hi there. Changed to a more descriptive title.
