Should TC show Icon Library selection dialog when opening with a blank .ini file?

Post by *petermad »

Every time TC is opened with a blank .ini file (often for testing) the Icon Library selection dialog pops up.

If the user is already running a configured TC and from inside TC starts a new instance with a blank ini file, I think most users are not really interested in choosing the icon library.

I suggest to change it so that if TC is opened with a blank ini file from a running TC instance, then this dialog could be suppressed - that is when the instance number of the new TC window is higher than 1.

Alternatively the automatic popup of the Icon Library selection dialog could be removed from the program.

What do you think!

I guess the automatic popup of the Library selection dialog for new installations was probably originally made to promote the alternative wcmicin2.dll when it was introduced with TC 9.00 in 2016 - I think this promoting should be obsolete by now - and the feature of auto-popup of the dialog could be completely removed.

You can create a file named maintemplate.txt containing the default settings you want from your wincmd.ini. When you then start Total Commander with the /i= parameter and the ini file doesn't exist, it will copy the maintemplate.txt to that name.
