Problem: TC stopped showing thumbnails
Hi all,
I am writing here because I have got an issue with the thumbnails view, switched from the full view by CTRL+SHIFT+F1. I use the TC version 11.55RC2 64bits on win11 enterprise 24H2. My user is a normal user, with no admin rights on the PC.
I use JpegView https://sourceforge.net/projects/jpegview/] as image viewer, for its speed of execution.
The thumbnail view works fine on all my local folders. The options in the configuration\options\thumbnails menu are all checked.
The issue I am encountering only concerns OneDrive synced folders, where all the picture files stay with a blue cloud icon before I open them and stays with the JPEGView default icon afterwards. I tried to enable the option 'always keep on this device' without success.
Thanks for your help and kind regards.
Nicolas

Re: Problem: TC stopped showing thumbnails
I have just tried to start TC with local admin elevation (following https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=80065&start=45) but it still has no effect.

Re: Problem: TC stopped showing thumbnails
Total Commander does not retrieve the thumbnails for files which are online only (not present on the local computer), because that would trigger a download. The cloud overlay means that the files are not present locally. The issue I am encountering only concerns OneDrive synced folders
This worked fine for me! You may need to exit the directory and return to it later when Windows has finished downloading the files (the cloud overlay needs to be gone). You may also need to select the files and choose "Re-download selected thumbnails" AFTER getting rid of the cloud overlay.I tried to enable the option 'always keep on this device' without success.

Re: Problem: TC stopped showing thumbnails
Hi,
Thanks for your answer.
The point is even after the cloud overlay has disappeared (I made the whole directory always kept on this device), the thumbnails do not appear. I also tried the command "Re-download selected thumbnails" without success.
Any other idea, please?
Thanks and kind regards,
Nicolas

Re: Problem: TC stopped showing thumbnails
Have you tried a different extraction method?

Re: Problem: TC stopped showing thumbnails
Hi,
Do you mean uncompressing? I did not extract them from any zip or RAR. They are on my business onedrive.
It worked fine in the past when I was on win 10, but maybe something has changed with 11... I looked into
C:\users\<my_user_name>\AppData\Local\Ghisler and the problematic directories are indeed listed in the file tcthumb.db, even not in clear (which makes sense).
Today, I tried to rename both tcthumbs.db and idb in .old and restart TC to reset the database.
Showing the thumbnails in the local directories still works fine, but not in the onedrive's.
If I enable the option 'always keep on this device' the issue is back.
If I do not, the caching of thumbnails works for the *.jpg when I open one to download it and refresh the directory:
Image: https://ibb.co/pC8cQbB
However, I noticed the *.jpeg and *.png extensions were problematic (still only on the onedrive directories):
Image: https://ibb.co/LDK86DWX
Even after having added the png extension to the internal thumbnails setting:
Image: https://ibb.co/MxfLQvKb
Is there something wrongly configured in my settings? The difference of behaviour between the local directories and the online ones is strange, because once the file is downloaded by the system, it should be considered as a local one, shouldn't it?
Thanks for your help and kind regards,
Nicolas

Maybe you have a Lister pluging that does not work correctly - Try and disable the setting: "Get from Lister plugins for:"

I don't think that .png images ever has embedded thumbnalils - so that doesn't do anything.Even after having added the png extension to the internal thumbnails setting:

Thanks 2petermad for your answer.
I unchecked the option 'Get from lister plugins for:', but I did not install a lister plugin.
Unfortunately, the issue is still de same : no thumbnails on the PNG files in the onedrive directory, but they work in local.

You could try and let us see you current wincmd.ini file - to see if we can reproduce it with your settings - remove personal information from the file) first.
to be sure to get the correct wincmd.ini file enter %COMMANDER_INI% in TC's command line - that should open the file in your default text editor.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, but you are on a local directory which also works on my side, the issue only happens not on remote onedrive directories.
Please see https://ibb.co/LDK86DWX.
I also checked on my own private computer (not business) and the same issue happens with the onedrive directories.
Cheers!

Re: Problem: TC stopped showing thumbnails
No, I meant a different method than the plugin jpegview to get the thumbnails from the files. But you tested that in the meantime by disabling Lister plugins.Do you mean uncompressing? I did not extract them from any zip or RAR.
That could be the problem - I only have a private OneDrive, and no access to any business OneDrive. Do they show up on your private OneDrive? They are on my business onedrive.

No, sorry; I also tested on my private onedrive, the behaviour is still the same

Re: Problem: TC stopped showing thumbnails
Sorry. I have now tested with Onedrive. TC does not show thumbnalis, unless the files have been downloaded (no blue cloud overlay) (as Ghisler also stated). Thanks for your answer. Yes, but you are on a local directory which also works on my side
Have you tried toopen one of the online images in TC's Lister (F3) - does the thumbnail turn up then?
You write:
Maybe JPEGView download the files to a temporarily directory when displaying the images, instead of forcing OneDrive to download them to the OneDrive folder?I open them and stays with the JPEGView default icon afterwards.
