Delete the first file in a column (in Brief view)

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Delete the first file in a column (in Brief view)

Post by *AdrianS »

Using version 11.55 RC5.
When deleting the first file in a column in Brief view mode, the cursor jumps without reason back to the first column, on the first position, [..].

The OP sorted the list by size. Maybe that's the reason.

No, deleting using delete key. I can send proof of that, if necessary.
Also, this happens even if the list is sorted by Name, Ext, Size, Date.

I cannot reproduce. Proof not necessary.

Are you using 32-bit TC?
Does it happen when you use a clean ini?
Are deleted files moved to recycle bin?
Does windows size matter?
Does folder contents matter?

The panel is in Brief mode, sorted by Name this time. Exactly the same problem.
towards the end of the video I delete 2 files that are not the first in the list and it can be seen that the cursor does not jump then.

TC x64 in x64 Windows 11.
Did not try a clean ini.
Yes, the files are moved to Recycle Bin. I checked that.
TC window size does not matter, the same bug at different sizes.
Same bug with different folders

Interestingly enough, I just tried with a clean wincmd.ini and the bug is gone. This might be a bug in itself.

Then it must be caused by one of the options you have set. Can you send me your wincmd.ini to cghisler at gmail dot com, so I can try to reproduce it myself?

I edited the config a little, to remove some personal info before sending.
Now if I replace the new config with this old one that manifested the bug, the bug is not there anymore.
This is very weird.
So now the file in its original form is lost. If I knew it would be this strange, I would have saved it with a different name.

I don't see quite the same as AdrianS - Here, if I delete the topmost file of the leftmost column, then the columns are scrolled 1 column to the right (the scroll slider moves to the left) - that does not happen if I delete files from any other column, or if I delete any other file but the topmost file in the leftmost column

See: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/deletefirstfilesbriefview.mp4

The video is made using a fresh .ini file - and I see the same in 32bit TC. - the "bug" is seen the first time 26 second into the video.
I also see the same when using the right file panel.

I went back and tested in TC 10.00 - it has the same behavior, as it actually also has in version 3.01 - so it is not a new behavior.

I have deleting to recycle bin disabled on System Level.

Maybe AdrianS has the cursor jumping to [..] because his columns are almost as wide as the file panel

Interesting observation, petermad. There may be something here after all.

In TC 3.01 I actually se the same behavior as AdrianS where the cursor always jumps to [..] and the columns are scrolled all the way to show the first column, instead of just scrolled 1 column.
