problem missing windows transfer files dialog when use ctrl+c and ctrl+v

Post by *danielgump »

1. When I use ctrl+c in one Explorer and ctrl+v to paste file in another Explorer, the transfer files dialog correctly popup.
2. When I use ctrl+c in Explorer and ctrl+v to paste file in Total Commander, the transfer files dialog don't show but the files copy successfully.
https://ibb.co/xtTRRycD - copy files
https://ibb.co/Qv4C8pGf - already pasted files and don't show any dialog
3. I already uninstall Total Commander and delete all configuration then update to the last version 11.55 RC7, but can't resolve the problem.
4. My computer OS is Microsoft Windows 11.
5. Somebody can help me? Thank you very much.
6. Sorry for the poor English.

Not confirmed on Windows 11 24H2. Can anyone else reproduce this?

For me, a dialog in Explorer only happens for more than one file.
TC never shows a dialog.
Windows 11 Home, Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4484)
TC 11.55 RC7 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1396a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.5.5.0, Listary Pro 6.3.2.88

WIndows 10 and 11 I don't get a copy transfer dialog when copying (ctrl+c) files from explorer into TC (ctrl+v). They just appear in the TC panel (folder).

I only get a dialog to replace/skip/compare files when a file name already exists.
F4MiniMenu (Forum) - Open selected file(s) from TC in defined editor(s) - A (minimalistic) clone of F4Menu
Source at GitHub (AutoHotkey). TCSyncComments (copy file comments)

As discussed here, this seems to be a Windows bug inttroduced by Windows update 'KB5063060'.

It's not even a Total Commander specific problem, it happens in any program using the "File open" dialog, e.g. in notepad.exe. Just switch to viewing all files, then do a Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V on a big file twice. Notepad becomes unresponsive until the file has been copied. Can you confirm that on your system too?

Yes, You are right. I start notepad.exe then select "File->Open" and switch to viewing all files.
Select a 500MB avi file then use Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V. The new file just copied without show any dialog.

For the case that Microsoft never fixes this bug, I have written a small tool for Total Commander 11.55 which will take over the PASTE function. Why? The progress dialog does appear when using PASTE for the first time in a program. So when I put it in a separate program which I launch for every paste operation as a new process, I get a progress dialog in all of them!

I have already added the function to call pastehandler.exe to Total Commander 11.55, so all you need to do is install the tool and then close and re-open Total Commander. The tool is 64-bit only because Windows 11 is 64-bit only, but it works also with the 32-bit version. The dll threadcounter.dll is used to determine when the copy operation has ended.

Download here:
https://www.totalcommander.ch/win/tools/pastehandler.zip

To install, double click on pastehandler.zip in Total Commander and follow the instructions.

Please report any bugs here in this thread!
