v11.57rc4 pop-up w file name

Post by *alphonse68 »

Hello all.
I have a question that I did not know how to search for.
When placing the cursor over a truncated filename, a pop-up window with the file's complete name appears.
Why is it in such large font?
The font is about twice size of the standard/default font used by TC.
Cheers

By default TC uses Windows settings for tooltip.

You can change that manually in your wincmd.ini file with the parameters described in the Help:
[quote)Help]FontNameTip= Font for tooltips
FontSizeTip= Font size for tooltips
FontWeightTip= Font weight for tooltips
FontCharsetTip=1 Font character set for tooltips. Not used on NT based Windows versions.:[/quote]

the parameters has to be placed in either the section for resolution specific settings e.g. [1024x768 (10x20)] or in the [AllResolutions] section, if you are using the ResolutionSpecific=0 parameter in the [Configuration] section
Help wrote:ResolutionSpecific=1 0: Resolution-specific data like font style+size are stored in a single section called [AllResolutions]
1: Resolution-specific data is stored in sections like [1024x768 (10x20)]

[AllResolutions] Used when ResolutionSpecific=0. See section [1024x768 (10x20)]
Will also be used for the current fonts when there is no resolution-specific section
history.txt wrote:02.03.12 Added: Change font for tooltips separately: wincmd.ini, resolution-specific section, FontNameTip, FontCharsetTip, FontSizeTip and FontWeightTip (TC uses the dialog box settings if these are not present) (32/64)

The default font used is Tahoma, 8 on Windows NT based systems like Windows 10/11. It shouldn't be extremely big. Maybe Tahoma is missing on your system?

Hi.
In reply to both your comments,
I do not have any modifications to any of the "Font...Tips" options... they are not even in my WinCmd.ini. Yes, I could add them, but I do not see why that should be done if they shouldn't have changed in the first place.

I do have Tahoma 8 in my system and in Configuration, Font they all appear as size 8.

Update:
While I was writing the above, I went into Config to verify what I was writing.
Under Config, Display I found "Show filename in file list as tooltip if truncated"
I unticked it, Apply, ticked back, Apply and it is now back to normal.

I noticed this behaviour at some point during the 11.57 Beta versions, but, I am sorry to say, I didn't post it right away.
My system has been stable, without any software changes, and I had not opened Config or WinCmd.ini in many months, but who knows what caused that change.

Thank you for your help. Peter, I learned something new. Thanks.

Cheers

I can also confirm this strange behavior in v11.57rc5 (x64).
After adding the entry FontSizeTip=10 (new) to wincmd.ini, the tooltip was the same as I knew it to be in v11.56 (and earlier). :)
By the way, I noticed the huge tooltips when I applied the results of a separate file search to a tab using “Apply”.

Perhaps this should be checked for the new release despite the manual addition to the INI file.

No problem here with a fresh wincmd.ini. Can you send me your wincmd.ini with this problem to support at ghisler dot com for testing? Please remove senstive data like history sections first.
