EditPadPro as an External Editor

Post by *protocol »

Hello all.

In the past i have used notepad, notepad2.. even Dreamweaver as external editors for Total Commander. So whenever i was logged in one of my servers via FTP, i could select any text file, press F4, modify the file and after exiting the exteral editor i was asked that "The file xxx.php has changed, do you want to upload the changed file to the server?". All ok.

This is not the case with EditPadPro. Sure, it opens the file, allows me to edit and save it, yet Total Commander does not detect the change and does not ask me if i want to upload the changed version.

Can anyone think a solution for this issue?

Best Regards

Panos

Is EditPadPro a multiple document editor? If yes, make sure that it isn't already running when you open the file. If it is, Windows does not return a program handle, so TC cannot test when the program has terminated. TC7 will have a solution for this problem, but it isn't as good as the current solution (there will be a small dialog box where the user has to confirm that the file was closed).

Thank you for your reply. Since you mentioned it, are there any plans for the availability of TC7?

I'm using EditPadLite (the Lite version of Pro ;) ) which is a multi-document editor (using tabs). There is an option in it to display a tray icon. I think that if you have that option enabled and you close EditPad, it is not being unloaded from memory, it just closes the open files and minimizes to tray. Perhaps this is the problem...

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

EditPadLite has been my TC-companion for ascii-edit from the beginning. Wanderer does have a very good clue about the tray icon. I have this button of EP disabled, of course, according to my policy to have as less apps in the tray as possible.
My small system demands efficiency, so no apps already loaded in memory for 'immediate take-off' on the tray. Reduces interrupt-conflicts and avoids lower speed performance.
