The 46 Best-ever Freeware Utilities

This list seems to be very competent and also regularly updated. How can a list that recommends AutoHotkey be wrong? :D

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

SHTTPD is a tiny web server (40 Kb) that is able tu run CGI scripts (it seems you can even run PHP as a CGI under shttpd, but I don't get it to work).

Software Virtualization Solution lets you virtualise single applications rather than an entire machine a la VMWare. It isolates each software version in its own layer, preventing them from interfering with one another. Doesn't do drivers though. SVS is free for personal use.

AL is an application launcher. It indexes start menu, quick launch bar, favorites(IE & FFox) or any folder that you want.

In addition it has search-function for:
m:<search term> IMDB (movie) search plugin.
web:<WebLnk> Web link launcher plugin.
gg:<search term> Google groups search plugin.
mailto:<mail address> Mailto plugin.
d:<search term> Search on dictionary.com plugin.
w:<search term> Wikipedia search plugin.
g:<search term> Search on google plugin.

Is not katapult but...

Announced as being "tiny", the AL MSI installer is 5 MB, the installation directory is 15 MB, full of Python files and the application Exe is 1.5 MB. If this is "tiny", Israel Kamakawiwo'ole was a famous ballett dancer I guess.

Anyway, after the first startup the application window is hidden behind all other open windows. When I had found it (and the wizard), the application found exactly nothing. I don't know what it indexes but it's for sure not the default start menu.

After the next startup the application hang and didn't came back to life anymore, obviously it's in very early alpha stage. A reinstall hasn't helped, the same problems again. Uninstall works flawlessly at least, this is definetely a plus.

You are right. The truth is unavoidable.
Anyway, after the first startup the application window is hidden behind all other open windows.
Always is hidden. Unless you call it with ALT-Space(default) or some other combination.
When I had found it (and the wizard), the application found exactly nothing. I don't know what it indexes but it's for sure not the default start menu.
In my computer(Win.XPpro.SP2) it works well. Both; User(Me) and All Users Start-Menu were indexed.
Also QuickLaunch, My Documents or any folder that I choose.
After the next startup the application hang and didn't came back to life anymore
Such thing never happened here.

You can do all that and much, much more with PowerPro - htttp://www.powerpro.webeddie.com. I've been using it for -years- and I only use a fraction of it's power. It is the best app in this category.

Looks like TC has another competitor. This one is free, has some cool features, and accepts plugins written in Delphi. http://ultraexplorer.mustangpeak.net/
