2Vochomurka:

[1] The word distractive won't be found in British English

[2] Regrettably it is to be found in American English, so it's an American construct but rather obscure

[3] A native English speaker would not say "that background is distractive". Instead, they would simply use "that background is distracting" or "that background is a distraction".

2icfu:
Does it squeak about "prepend"?
Nah, not so much as a bleedin' knackwurst. Computing jargon terms like prepend, postpend, ABEND, and luser have yet to make it into mainstream English. But it's thumbs up for prefix and postfix as you'd expect.

Notice, however, that we have happily stolen your Weltschmerz, Petermad's neighbour's smorgasbord, and Clo's derriere.

Soon, real soon now - ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!

Petermad's neighbour's smorgasbord
That would be Leif ( http://www.ghisler.ch/board/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=22 ) - atually it is smörgåsbord - in Danish it is smørrebrødsbord - a smaller version of our: Det store kolde bord.

I think that Ombudsmand is one of the most recent words English has adopted from Danish.
