1: noLoadType: prevent this file type to load in Lister/QuickView, noPreviewType: prevent this file type to show in the Thumbnail view in TC
2: it depends on your uLister setup (ulister.ini forbidden types)
As I said: If more than one plugin can render a file type, the wlx plugin list determines which plugin will be used after starting a Lister window.
So it's up to you (your personal preferences).
3: I don't know what plugin you use for these - Imagine?
In any case, try to clear/delete the thumbnail database file ("tcthumbs.idb")
4: Hard to say. All existing plugins depend on the installed system codecs.
Mmedia seems to work quite good.
1. Understood. Thanks
2. Ok, got it.
3. I didnt change any settings for these... so its TC default. What could I try?
4. Ok, I'll take a look at that.

Thanks Milo!

It's quite well known that the thumbnail cache can cause problems from time to time.
Just search the forum for it.
Deleting "tcthumbs.idb" and/or "tcthumbs.db" might help.
If not, then there must be some different bug or a misconfiguration.

Hi Milo, sorry for the late reply, I was away for a couple of days
I did as you instructed and it fixed the problem - Thanks!

Regarding uLister, I ave one plain text file which opens with uLister. Why would it open with uLister instead of the built-in lister? All other txt documents open with the regular lister!
(This doc was made by a program and has special encoding to it, but lister can display it because it always did until I got uLister)

Thanks

Because TC doesn't analyze any file for content BEFORE trying plug-ins.
it just asks all active WLX plug-ins "Can one of you handle it ?".
If none can do it, TC tries to load the file in default lister, with some basic analysis (e.g. checking for Unicode).

So in your case you probably did not instruct uLister to discard unknown/plain text files.
Try e.g. this settings, to discard anything except office formats (i.e. archives, multimedia files, PDF(!) AND basic image files):

Code: Select all

[ulister]
noloadtypes=1999,1500,1501,1502,1503,1506,1507,1508,1509,1510,1512,1514,1515,1516,1535,1557,1559,1561,1564,1574,1588,1589,1590,1591,1599,1602,1609,1646,1700,1701,1702,1703,1704,1705,1706,1707,1708,1709,1710,1711,1712,1713,1714,1715,1716,1717,1718,1719,1720,1721,1722,1723,1724,1725,1726,1727,1728,1800,1801,1802,1803,1804,1813,1814,1815,1816,1820,1821,1822,1825,1826,1827,2401,2402,2403,2404,2405,2406
nopreviewtypes=1999,1500,1501,1502,1503,1506,1507,1508,1509,1510,1512,1514,1515,1516,1535,1557,1559,1561,1564,1574,1588,1589,1590,1591,1599,1602,1609,1646,1700,1701,1702,1703,1704,1705,1706,1707,1708,1709,1710,1711,1712,1713,1714,1715,1716,1717,1718,1719,1720,1721,1722,1723,1724,1725,1726,1727,1728,1800,1801,1802,1803,1804,1813,1814,1815,1816,1820,1821,1822,1825,1826,1827,2401,2402,2403,2404,2405,2406
If it doesn't help, set uLister to a lower position in the WLX plug-in list.

Hi Milo, thanks
I copied and pasted your configuration to uLister and restarted TC (not sure if I have to) but it is still being previewed with uLister.
ULister is already the last plugin in the list.

Something interesting, when this file is displayed in uLister window, under options, "multimedia" is checked. If I switch it to text, it doesn't display normally at all! What is this about?

Anything else?
Thanks

First of all I had a typo in the settings: the section needs to be separated from the key with a new line.

But besides that I'm not sure what it could be.
Are you sure the file is a plain text file, w/o any special encoding?
If you don't see anything when switching to text view, it actually proofs that it must be some arbitrary encoding.
Maybe you can post a screenshot of the display in TC's text view, or upload the whole file somewhere, or post the first few bytes as hex values, etc.

Thanks Milo.
Yes, I did correct that and I moved the keys to a separate line, but it still didn't work

Here is a link to download the text file:
https://mega.nz/#!MosChJBA
(I'm not sure why its not showing as a link)

Thanks,

I can't download, I need a decryption key.

And the syntax is

Code: Select all

link text

Confirmed
The forum software is actually quite outdated, having trouble using the hash character, exclamation mark and underscore (and a few different chars) in URLs.
You need to percent encode the hash char, resulting in
Link

Code: Select all

Link
The text file seems a normal UTF-8 file.
So it's actually quite clear what happened:
TC can identify UTF-8 files.
Prior to uLister it automatically switched to UTF-8 view (button "7") or "Options"->UTF-8
Now when you manually switch to NORMAL text view ("1"), the encoding is wrong of course.
So just switch manually to UTF-8 for such files.

As for uLister, I will see if I can identify the ID code, to prevent display of such text files.

Thanks

Regarding URLs, ok great - as long as its not me...

Regarding the file, that's interesting. The behavior by me seems different:
  • - When I press F3, it displays in uLister ad 4-Multimedia
    - When I change it to UTF-8, it changes to Lister and displays perfect
So, 2 things:
  1. 1. You don't have to check up that code, because seemingly when TC reads it as UTF-8 it does open already with Lister (and not uLister)
    2. Why would that be? Why by me is it loading as multimedia and by you it loads correctly as UTF-8?
Thanks,
Davey

P.S. Does it make sense that these plugins (with the configs) causes TC to load much slower? Till a few days ago, TC loaded fully within 1-1.5 seconds. Now its taking more like 10 seconds!

Yes, that's perfectly normal.
To clarify: TC by default switches to "Multimedia" when a plug-in was able to open a file.
(there are exceptions to that rule, and you can set the start-up behavior in the Lister config)
So the same thing that I described above happens:
A plug-in was able to open a file, so TC doesn't use any of those normal/raw (built-in) views.
So the only thing you can do is to manually switch to a raw view (no encoding auto-detect).

BTW, using ALT+Shift+F3 will prevent loading any plug-ins for Lister.
Davey_D wrote:Why by me is it loading as multimedia and by you it loads correctly as UTF-8?
No, it doesn't and I didn't state that.
If I use the file ID config from above, uLister tries to open the file for me also.
I just was able to identify UTF-8 due to my different editors (or by viewing the file as raw hexadecimal, or similar).

As I said, I will try to collect the ID codes for uLister, so that those files will open w/o uLister again.

Not really. A tiny slowdown needs to be expected of course, but 10 seconds is way too much.
All plug-ins are loaded "on-demand".
If you have any thumbnail view opened when TC launches, it will need to load the plug-ins immediately after launch of course.
But for a normal file view in both panels there shouldn't be any slowdowns.

Ok
  1. 1. Thanks for the clarity
    2. Thanks for that shortcut key
    3. Sorry, I misunderstood what you wrote previously. Now I understand.
    4. Thanks for looking for the ID codes!
    5. Regarding the slowdown, Ok, good to hear. It must be something, I will pay attention to this
Thanks again

Seems that's it actually quite logical:

Code: Select all

4025 - UTF-8 encoded Text
is the file ID.
Still, it's working for a handful of files only, a lot of my personal UTF-8 files are not detected by the plug-in, despite the right encoding.

In any case, it's probably best to disable all text file IDs:

Code: Select all

...4009,4010,4011,4012,4013,4014,4015,4016,4017,4018,4021,4022,4023,4024,4025,4026,4027,4028,4029,4030,4031,4032,4033,4034,4035,4036,4037

I am happy with PSD codec. Its meant for explorer but works good in TC also. Haven't had any luck with TC image plugins.
