Adobe also has problems when running with elevated rights (As Administrator), so don't try to open PDF files from an elevated Total Commander.

Mmh, maybe it depends on the Adobe version used.
I can open PDF files here with [2] Administrator^ - Total Commander (x64) 10.51RC3 without problems with Adobe Acrobat 11.0.23 Pro x86.

[OT]Just because it was mentioned above:
I can open documents in Total Commander (with/without administrator) with Microsoft Word without any problems.[/OT]

Windows 11 Pro (x64) Version 21H2 (OS build 22000.918)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe
Microsoft® Word LTSC MSO (16.0.14332.20358) 64-Bit - (Part of: Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021)

What exactly do you mean? Is this something that can be done through the properties of the exe file (talking about acrobat.exe)?

It seems that other users have similar problems with Adobe reader (not related to Total Commander). There are multiple instruction pages on how to fix the problem, see for example:

Regarding the adobe fixes that were mentioned here have tried them all and nothing seems to fix the issue. If for example I switch to another pdf reader like Foxit reader then are no problems

2 days ago I noticed the following. Downloaded a driver for Intel i5 1135G7 CPU that also has a GPU. The name of the driver is gfx_win_101.3222_101.2111.exe and the url is located here https://downloadmirror.intel.com/741527/gfx_win_101.3413_101.2111.exe

Tried to run the exe file from within Total Commander. No result. The exe file was visible and running in the task manager (details tab) but nothing was happening. Closed the app and opened it from withing explorer and it worked. Just giving some heads up here in case anybody has encountered similar issue.

System affected is an HP Laptop PC 14-d2000 (2D127AV) running Windows 11 installed from scratch

Does it open when you right click on the file for 1/2 second and then choose the default item from the context menu?

If yes, you can use that open method also for ENTER:
Please add the following string to the file wincmd.ini, section [Configuration]:
ExecUseContextMenu=1

You can edit the wincmd.ini via Configuration - Change settings files directly.

I have the similar problem today, and fix it finally.

Windows 11 22H2
Total Commander 10.52
Adobe Acrobat Pro 2022 or 2023 (x64)

Problem:
A) After new version Adobe Acrobat had been installed, if double-clicking the pdf file in TC, the process of Acrobat.exe shown second level under TOTALCMD64.EXE in task manager, the window of Acrobat will not show. But if double-clicking the pdf file in explorer, the process of Acrobat.exe shown first level in task manager, Acrobat open the file normally.
B) I tried same software collocation on another PC. There is no problem.
The difference between A and B is that TC runs as admin in A, but not as in B.

Solution:
Uncheck "Run this program as an administrator" in the Properties window and the Compatibility tab of TOTALCMD64.EXE
Then it's OK in A.

Maybe:
I found some words in the following url later.
https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-reader-discussions/acrobat-reader-11-and-total-commander-incompatibility/m-p/8810273
"but if you run one as an administrator and the other as a normal user, Windows blocks messages between the normal users and the admins."
