Interesting, my S10e with Android 12 doesn't have this.

I haven't seen that kind of dialog on my Galaxy S20 (Android 13, UI 5.0) either. So i don't think is and Android feature, it is an S23 feature

Sorry, I had a typo... It is a S22 as stated in the opener... That is the regular "task manager" you get by either swiping up from the bottom of the screen (gestures) or pressing the three lines symbol left of the home screen symbol in the navigation bar.... No seperaten app was installed

Aha - now I found the feature - I have to tap on the text in the upper left corner telling the number of background apps ("2 im Hintergrund aktiv").

If I do that I see the LAN-plugin and the FTP plugin in the background, but not TC itself: https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/Screenshot_20230214_124606.png (after tapping on "3 kører i baggrunden").

The Google Drive plugin and the Onedrive plugin will also be on this list of apps running in the background, but not the TotalDrip plugin.

All plugins are closed if I clear them from the task screen.

All plugins running in the background except the Ondrive plugin will be closed when I terminate TC from the task screen.

EDIT:
If I at any time start the playback of a video with TC's own player, then TC will stay active in the background https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/Screenshot_20230214_132043.png

TC will also be active in the background after closing TC's video player or TC itself from the task screen. https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/Screenshot_20230214_134822.png (notice no open apps at all)

I have to close TC's video player by tapping the red x button or via the players menu to stop TC from running in the background every time it has been opened.

I do not use the media player of TC.

If I do not close TC it will eat through my battery.
If I do close it (via task screen) but not also close the background task of roll eat through my battery
Only if I also close the background task it will be fine...

Hmm, hard to tell then what makes TC reside in the background on your device.

What is you setting of "battery" in the App info for TC - here I have this: https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/Screenshot_20230214_234542.png

And does TC by any chance figure in the "Never sleeping apps" < https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/Screenshot_20230214_234609.png > in the "Battery and device care" setting on your device?

My S10e doesn't have this indicator, so it must be an Android 13 thing. I'm a bit worried that the background task doesn't go away when you close the player. Can you tell me how exactly you close it? Just swiping it away does not close it. You either need to click on the "X" button in the player notification, or click on the "X" button in the player itself.

You either need to click on the "X" button in the player notification, or click on the "X" button in the player itself.
If I do either of those things, or tap on the players menu (the 3 dots) and chose "Exit", then the player does not stay in the background. But if i open the phones task list (with the button with 3 vertical lines at the bottom of the phone) an close the player from there ("Close all), the player stays in the background presented as Total Commander.

If I close the player from the notification screen (opened by swiping down from the top of the phone) by tapping the x in the notification - then if I try to start a new playback with TC's internal player, then the video does not load - I have to then close the player with the red X and open it again.

Yes, this only closes the player form, not the playback task. Try starting the playback of a music track, then close the player via "Close all". This will not stop the playback, and the player controls will remain in the notification area.

TC has been set to "Not restriced" by me some time ago because I experienced lost connections via VPN which I tried to resolve... Anyways , I set it to the standard "Optimized" in the battery settings and monitored the battery for some days when not terminating the background task (I have never used the media player - only copy several mp3 via LAN Plugin). Maybe it became a little better with the "Optimized" setting but nonetheless there is a signicant difference in battery usage if I manually terminate the resident background task via app switcher as described earlier. Still I would say standby battery usage is nearly halfed by terminating the process immideteatly after using TC.

TC is not in the category "Never sleeping apps"

I still don't understand why you are getting a resident background task if you don't use the player.
Does it show up immediately after launching TC (after previously removing the task)?

The only other case where TC creates a background service is when you move a file operation to the background by switching to another app during a long operation. This is done because otherwise Android would terminate the background app while it is still copying. But this background service is terminated automatically when returning to TC.

Just checked: it immediately shows up after starting TC even if no operations were done with TC.

Do the media player controls show up too in the Android notification area?

Code: Select all

adb.exe install -d -r tcandroid333d-arm64-v8a.apk
habe ich gerade ein Rollback gemacht und teste damit weiter.

I have extensively tested all 3.4* versions with and without Wakelock disabled and all have very high battery consumption, even after very short use of the TC.
I never used the media player.
The high battery consumption stops (fortunately) when I quit the TC that continues to run in the background.
Here is an example again, which is available for one month: https://ibb.co/PghBNrN.

With

Code: Select all

adb.exe install -d -r tcandroid333d-arm64-v8a.apk
I just did a rollback and continue testing with it.
