Exactly! And if TC is already running the folder should be opened in the current source pane.

If not what new behavior should I expect as this was my understanding.
From the tenor of your question I bet you did not adjust te path to TC (what I missed to repeat from icfus post):

REGEDIT 4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell]
@="Total_Commander"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\Total_Commander]
@="Total Commander"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\Total_Commander\command]

@="X:\\Path\\To\\TOTALCMD.EXE /O /S /L=%1"

If your Total Commander is located in C:\Porgram files\totalcmd the last (red) line should look like this:

@="C:\\Program files\\Totalcmd\\TOTALCMD.EXE /O /S /L=%1"

So all you have to do is change this line in your reg-file and doubleclick again. It's not necessary to remove the entry before that with the second reg-file - while it where not harmful ;).

On a separate matter, I have d/l a number of plug-ins, know how to un-pack them but don't know how to install them into TC.

Thank you again.
That for I would recommend you download the Plugins manager Install the program, at the first start you will be asked for the path to Totalcmd.exe and wincmd.ini (what you can find by [Alt]+[h]elp then [a]bout Totalcmd. ). Then you may let Plugins Manager make the installation. If you need further help don't hesitate to ask.

In TC's help file, it sez that newer plug-ins can be installed by opening the compressed file. I tried this & on each of my four plug-ins I rcvd an error msg of some kind -- different ones for different plug-ins. Clearly I'm doing something wrong once again but don't know what.

I can click on plug-in mgr in the directory & it opens. It offers a 'new' option which I clicked. I then tried to install the other plug-ins this way but, again, ran into errors.

This didn't happen for me so maybe that's the problem & I should start all over again but I'd like to do it correctly this time. TIA

Probably they are all versions for TC versions before 6.5 (where this behavior has been introduced). The 'selfinstall' needs a kind of setup ini in the plugins archive. And regarding that those plugins are made from users for other users for free you could not expect that they are updatet for this 'selfinstall' feature.

I can click on plug-in mgr in the directory & it opens. It offers a 'new' option which I clicked. I then tried to install the other plug-ins this way but, again, ran into errors.
Try to unpack the plugins before installing ([Alt]+[F9] should work from into TC). After that the Plugins manager should find the plugin (provided you browse to the appropriate directory ;) )..

Another thing: There are four kinds of plugin Filesystem (*.wfx) you will find after installing in the network neighbourhood. Listerplugin (*.wlx) that will show you e. g. Pictures in Lister. Packerplugin (*.wcx) that wil enable you to look into archives like a folder. Contextplugins (*.wdx) that you can use in the custom columns.

For each kind of plugin you have a separate section in Plugin-manager you can activate by a button. If you try to install a Lister plugin with Packer plugins activated you may not find the plugin. So have a look at the extension before installing the plugin
Or you can choose the '*' button to show (and install) all kinds of plugins.

This didn't happen for me
After starting Plugin Manager you will see in the upper part of the window two lines with "TC Path" and the path what Plugins manager assumes your Totalcmd.exe and "ini-file" wich shows which ini file Plugins manager is using. These paths you can adjust by clicking at the "..." button and browsing to the appropriate path (For your TC you should know where to find and the ini-path you will see by Help-> About.

Hope that will let you successfully install your plugins.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Hi!

I ran through this topic rather quickly, so sorry if this has already been mentioned...

I'd like a small TC to open when I dl a file from internet with Firefox (after pressing 'save as...').
A small, one windowed TC with the possibility to choose from the favorite directories.

OR: That the (normal) TC would come to the front (after you press 'save as..), it would have a frame of a different light or something (to know that you're in the 'choosing save destination' mode) and you could browse for the location. If TC wasn't opened already, it would open.

It's not possible to choose 'favorite' directories with the defeault windows browser, right?
I'd love to be able to do that!

chea,
i am affraid it is not possible. Simply "Save as" is standard windows dialog and only the application that is using it can change its behaviour.
But to access Favorits from that dialog cound be quite easy. Just put shortcut to that folder into "My documents" or on Desktop, that you can reach from the "Save as" with one button click

You can also customize your open/save dialog places bar (the one that appears in the left side of dialogs in WinME/2k/XP) using this free program: PlacesBar Editor.

And you should also take a look at DM2.

Thanks, that PlacesBar Editor looks just like what I need!

ado: With Favorites, I meant a lot of folders, not just one.

Thanks to CoMiKe to point out PlacesBar Editor, this is a very handy tool.

I was already using DM2 (only the Favorite menu feature) and I was wondering if someone know a more user friendly alternative to DM2 Favorite menu. I don't find very easy to add an entry with it. But it is of course better than nothing.
