I don’t! But if I’m allowed to speculate, you can never make sure that all third-party zip packers can provide the same level of compatibility. On the other hand, a certain level of standardization should be applicable since all approaches deal with the zip format. Encryption though can be a whole new level of compatibility complexity.

Actually the help TC page on zipping says it is due to restrictive US export laws. I would find it helpful if there was more documentation about this. I come across password protected ZIP archives often and if I don't have to use WinZip just for the password protected files, that would be a lot easier. And if WinZip can create/read password protected ZIP files, why cannot TC?
It is forbidden for @ghisler to offer a Total Commander version that is able to create or unpack a password protected archive.
The Swiss adopted these encryption laws of the USA.
Total Commander contains an interface to implement a ZIP-DLL that supports encryption and decrytion of ZIP-Archives.
To enable your Total Commander version to pack/unpack encryted files you'll have to download the DLL from the link in quoted and overwrite the Wcmzip32.dll in your TC programs folder.

The problem with rapidahare is that the files will be deleted if they are not downloaded for a certain time.
